About the Digital Governance Council

With increasing reliance on digital systems and data in nearly every aspect of modern life, the need for strong digital governance has never been greater. The evolution of new and emerging technologies presents a significant opportunity for Canada to reinforce its position as a global leader in data governance and as a nation committed to promoting domestic digital innovation.

The Digital Governance Council is a member-driven, not-for-profit organization that works to provide Canadians with confidence in the responsible design, architecture and management of digital technologies through four streams of activity:

    • Convening an executive forum for members to share best practices, identify digital governance gaps and prioritize collective action.
    • Partnering to prove out new technologies and deliver proofs of concept and common building blocks to manage risks and opportunities associated with the use of digital technologies.
    • Establishing the Council’s Digital Governance Standards Institute, independent of the Council, to develop technology governance standards.
    • Certifying organizations against digital governance standards.

Strategic Focus Areas in Digital Governance

Working through our members to deliver a coordinated national approach concerning critical digital governance challenges and opportunities facing Canadian people and organizations in the digital economy, the Digital Governance Council’s strategic focus rests on three thematic pillars:

    • Enhancing service delivery: Promoting economic and social prosperity by providing secure and trusted access to services improving confidence of Canadian people, business and government in Canada’s digital economy.

    • Safeguarding digital infrastructure: Advancing secure and responsible digital technologies to enhance and defend both new and existing systems.

    • Scaling digital talent and domestic innovation: Supporting Canada’s ability to build the digital workforce and promote innovative Canadian companies.
