The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) announces the release of the second edition of CAN/DGSI 100-6, marking a significant milestone in the responsible governance of employee information in the digital age.
This new edition, titled “Data Governance – Part 6: Responsible governance of employee information,” supersedes the previous version, which focused on the responsible collection and use of digital contact tracing and monitoring data in the workplace. The updated standard addresses the evolving landscape of workplace data collection and management, reflecting the current legal and technological environment.
Key updates in the second edition include:
- Expanded Scope: The standard now encompasses a broader range of employee-related data, going beyond contact tracing and monitoring to address the comprehensive governance of employee information.
- Minimum Requirements: CAN/DGSI 100-6 specifies minimum requirements for how employers collect, use, store, and dispose of employee-related data, providing a clear framework for organizations to follow.
- Employee Consent: The new edition addresses the concept and validity of employee consent, ensuring that employees are properly informed in how their data is used.
- Remuneration and Benefits: The standard now includes guidance on handling sensitive information related to employee remuneration and benefits.
- Human and Machine Processing: Recognizing the increasing role of technology in data analysis, the standard covers data that is analyzed by both humans and processed by digital machines.
The release of this new edition comes at a critical time when remote work and technological monitoring tools have heightened concerns about data security and privacy. By adopting the requirements outlined in CAN/DGSI 100-6, organizations can ensure they are handling employee data responsibly and transparently, fostering trust and compliance in their data governance efforts.
Stakeholders, including employers, employees, and data governance professionals, are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new standard. The DGSI believes that by staying informed about the latest practices in responsible data management, organizations can strengthen their digital governance frameworks and better navigate the complexities of employee data handling in the modern workplace.
