OTTAWA – The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) is proud to announce the publication of CAN/DGSI 116: Health data lexicon, which is now available for download on the DGSI website.
CAN/DGSI 116: Health data lexicon is a significant milestone in the field of health data policy and education. This new standard aims to enhance data literacy in Canada and around the globe by developing standardized definitions of key terms used in the health data ecosystem. Fostering a shared, common vocabulary on health data facilitates better communication and understanding of health data overall.
By leveraging common terminology when discussing health data with one another and when relaying information to patients and citizens, we can advance knowledge, promote transparency about data practices, promote optimized data use, and enhance overall data literacy. Additionally, standardized terminology enables seamless data sharing and collaboration among healthcare providers, policymakers, researchers, industry, and patient groups within Canada. With clearer communication and standardized terms, patients can better understand their own health information, enabling more effective self-care management and greater engagement with their health and wellness.
