OTTAWA – The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) is pleased to announce a new revision of the National Standard of Canada CAN/DGSI 104:2021 / Rev 1: 2024- Baseline Cyber Security Controls for Small and Medium Organizations. This revised standard is part of the recognized Canadian cybersecurity program. It aims to enhance cyber security measures for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), ensuring they are better equipped to handle evolving cyber threats.
The standard takes into account the following updates:
– Minor updates of terms and definitions
– Additional clarity on Level 1 versus Level 2 requirements relating to the following areas:
– Cyber security training
– Cyber security risk assessment
– Incident response plan
– Secure configuration process
– Data back-ups
– Secure cloud, outsourced IT services, and websites
The development of the standard was a collaborative effort led by the DGSI Technical Committee 5 (TC 5) on Cyber Security, bringing together more than 170 esteemed thought leaders and experts in cyber security and related fields. CAN/DGSI 104 specifies a minimum set of cyber security controls specifically designed for SMEs, typically with fewer than 500 employees. These safeguards play a crucial role in protecting sensitive information and empowering businesses to thrive amidst the ever-present challenges of cyber threats.
