Building on existing partnerships to increase access to AI education across Canada
The Digital Governance Council (DGC) expands its AI learning initiatives with the Canadian AI Advancement Institute (CAIAI), introducing a self-paced course to support the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence across Canada.
As artificial intelligence continues to evolve and adoption accelerates across sectors, there is an increasing need for professionals who can implement AI ethically, safely, and effectively. This collaboration builds on the Council’s growing network of partners, including its work with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) and CPA Ontario, and reflects a continued commitment to advancing AI literacy, skills development, and responsible adoption nationwide.
The new Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course is designed to provide learners with both foundational knowledge and practical skills to support responsible AI adoption across sectors. Developed in consultation with industry experts and public- and private-sector stakeholders, the program covers key areas including AI ethics, AI security, standards, machine learning, model training, prompt engineering, and the application of generative AI tools. Participants also gain hands-on experience customizing AI models, enabling them to apply their learning in practical contexts. Upon completion, learners are awarded the Canadian AI Professional (C-AIP) certification, recognizing their ability to apply AI knowledge ethically, safely, and effectively.
Learners will have access to a comprehensive 16-chapter textbook featuring insights from experts worldwide, including DGC CEO Keith Jansa, and DGC Member and CEO Mark Hobbs of Fundmetric.

This initiative supports an area of strategic focus on scaling digital talent and domestic innovation, strengthening Canada’s ability to build a skilled digital workforce and foster the growth of innovative Canadian companies. It also contributes to enhancing service delivery and safeguarding digital infrastructure by promoting the responsible and secure adoption of AI technologies across sectors.
