OTTAWA – The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) has launched a periodic maintenance review of the National Standard of Canada, CAN/DGSI 100-7, Data Governance – Part 7: Operating model for responsible data stewardship. The standard specifies minimum requirements for the responsible governance of responsible data trust, collaboratives, and cooperatives. This important review helps ensure that the standard continues to meet the needs of a fast-changing digital landscape.
At its core, CAN/DGSI 100-7 addresses the fundamental characteristics and requirements regarding data stewardship and its elements such as, safe collaboration, sharing, and data protection. As a key component in data governance framework, this standard extends its reach to encompass fiduciary stewardship, management, and responsibility in the sharing, storage, and exchange of data.
“There are compelling reasons for organizations to share data, from improving operational efficiencies and reducing business costs to generating new insights and making better business decisions. This National Standard of Canada provides essential requirements for organizations that steward data on behalf of others and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place. This is a great opportunity for you to share your expertise and experience as we open a 90-day maintenance review period for the standard. “ – Darryl Kingston, Executive Director, Digital Governance Standards Institute
Organizations across sectors are encouraged to review and provide feedback on the standard to help integrate its principles into their data governance frameworks and contribute to building a more secure, innovative, and trustworthy digital ecosystem for Canada.
