Help Shape Canada’s National Approach to Digital Literacy

SETSI to Host Inclusive Workshop with Support from the Digital Governance Standards Institute and the Standards Council of Canada

Social Economy Through Social Inclusion (SETSI) is leading a national initiative to co-create a Workshop Agreement (WA) that will define common terms, share best practices, and outline a shared approach to digital literacy in Canada. This work is being undertaken with support from the Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI), a nationally accredited standards development organization and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC).

Digital literacy is a critical enabler of equitable participation in today’s digital world, yet efforts across public, private, and nonprofit sectors remain siloed. This initiative aims to bring people together to create a shared framework that supports a more inclusive and coordinated approach to digital literacy.

About the Project

SETSI will lead a national consultation process to inform the development of a Workshop Agreement that:

  • Defines a common vocabulary for digital literacy and related terms;
  • Provides practical guidance for implementing digital literacy initiatives across diverse settings;
  • Identifies cross-sector best practices that can be adapted and scaled;
  • Proposes a shared set of indicators to track progress and impact.

This work will serve as a foundation for future standards and policies that support digital inclusion across Canada.

Who Is Invited?

Everyone is welcome.

SETSI is committed to an open, inclusive, and collaborative process. Participation is encouraged from educators, students, nonprofit leaders, technologists, policymakers, youth, elders, community organizations, public servants, industry stakeholders, and members of historically underserved communities.

Those interested in participating can register for the event here.  The Workshop is being hosted June 19th from 11 AM – 1 PM EDT.

What to Expect

SETSI and DGSI will prepare a draft document in advance, informed by research and early engagement. This draft will be shared with participants prior to the June 19th workshop.

During these facilitated sessions, participants will be invited to review, validate, and expand on the findings — ensuring the final output reflects diverse perspectives and is grounded in lived experience and sector expertise.

Agenda

A full agenda will be shared with registered participants in advance of the sessions.

How to Participate

 Participation is free and open to all individuals, organizations, and companies (subject to standard conflict-of-interest guidelines). Sessions will be hosted virtually to ensure broad access and national reach. As part of the registration process, participants will be asked to indicate their preferred language. The session will be conducted in English; however, translation support will be provided by the SETSI team to ensure participants who wish to contribute in French are fully supported.  Register now and view the full agenda
