The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) is pleased to announce that it’s Standards Policy Committee (SPC) has approved the development of a new National Standard of Canada on User-centric (User Benefit) Consent-Driven Approach to Data Access, Interoperability and Mobility.
As digital systems become increasingly integrated into daily life, traditional, static models of consent are proving inadequate. This new standard aims to modernize the way organizations seek, manage, and respect individual consent, making it more transparent, dynamic, and responsive to user needs.
Key focus areas will include:
- Dynamic, tiered, and revocable consent models
- Consent lifecycle transparency and auditability
- Accessibility and inclusivity in consent practices
- Frameworks to support data mobility and user autonomy
This work will be developed as a horizontal foundational standard, with potential for sector-specific extensions in the future.
Now Accepting Expressions of Interest
DGSI is now seeking contributors from across sectors — including privacy professionals, technologists, civil society leaders, researchers, public institutions, and standards practitioners — to join this important initiative.
Work is expected to begin in late summer or early fall. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of digital trust and user empowerment in Canada.
