Ottawa, ON — The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) is pleased to announce the opening of a 60-day public review for the second edition of CAN/DGSI 100-1: Data Governance – Part 1: Data Centric Security, a National Standard of Canada.
The public review will run from July 14, 2026, to September 14, 2026, providing organizations, industry experts, government representatives, academics, and the public with an opportunity to review the draft standard and submit comments before it is finalized.
CAN/DGSI 100-1 establishes requirements for solutions that protect digital assets while they are at rest, in transit, and in use. The standard promotes a data-centric approach to security by ensuring that protection remains with the data itself rather than relying solely on the security of underlying systems or infrastructure.
The second edition introduces several significant enhancements, including:
- Expanded requirements covering streaming data and AI database data alongside traditional file-based protection.
- New guidance to help organizations maintain data sovereignty, even when data is stored or processed using foreign-owned infrastructure.
- Updated terminology and definitions to reflect evolving technologies and modern data protection practices.
DGSI encourages all interested stakeholders to participate in the public review. Feedback received during the consultation period will be considered by the Technical Committee before publication of the final edition.
The draft standard is available for review via CAN/DGS 100-1.
