Human Research Standards Organization and the CIO Strategy Council (CIOSC) are pleased to announce their partnership, aiming to further cooperation and collaboration in the development of standards for the governance of human research data. This joint initiative will lead to standards that ensure that research organizations have access to the necessary structural components, oversight capabilities, and procedural documents to produce reliable, verifiable, and credible research data in an environment that promotes efficiencies and mitigates risks.
Human research can provide knowledge that assists society in many ways, including through the production of socially beneficial goods, services, and improved insights into human behaviour. Achieving these benefits in an ethical way requires respect for the dignity and rights of those whose data and participation make these benefits possible. It is incumbent on organizations conducting human research to govern themselves accordingly.
The partnership between HRSO and the CIO Strategy Council strengthens national cooperation between accredited standards development organizations and will assist in prioritizing objectives to optimize the use of resources and collective expertise in the development of governance standards for human research data. Both the CIO Strategy Council and HRSO are National Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC).
