Public Review of Proposed National Standard for Data Governance: Scalable Remote Access Infrastructure

OTTAWA, September 28, 2022 The CIO Strategy Council invites all stakeholders to share and provide their input on a draft national standard. This standard aims to present a set of requirements for organizations to mitigate security risks associated with, and scalability demands upon, enterprise technologies used for remote access. The standard will provide guidance to organizations needing to react to unprecedented and unplanned shifts in their workforce to support remote work from home.

The draft, CAN/CIOSC 100-4: 20XX Data Governance – Part 4: Scalable Remote Access Infrastructure, is available on the CIO Strategy Council website for public review. The deadline for comments is November 28, 2022. After the public review period closes, Technical Committee 1: Data Governance, will review and disposition all comments received.

This standard is a maintenance update to the Publicly Available Specification which was launched by the CIO Strategy Council in 2020. The PAS provides a vendor-agnostic framework and set of characteristics which, when adopted, enable the secure and rapid scale-up of the infrastructure needed to support remote work requirements.

You are invited to comment on the draft national standard by November 28, 2022.

“The COVID-19 pandemic brought to light the amount of work needed have an accessible framework available to support remote and work from home arrangements. The infrastructure that remote workers use – personal or employer-provided laptops that connect to the corporate network via VPNs and home WiFi – may not be able to scale rapidly and presents cybersecurity risks. I encourage everyone to join the conversation and help shape the requirements for this proposed draft national standard on scalable remote access infrastructure.”
