The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) has opened a 60-day public review for the first edition of CAN/DGSI 133, Privacy – Data Consent Management – Consent-Driven Approach to Data Access, Interoperability and Mobility.
The public review will be open from July 23rd, 2026 to September 21st, 2026, providing stakeholders across industry, government, academia, civil society, and the general public with an opportunity to review the draft standard and provide comments before it is finalized as a National Standard of Canada.
CAN/DGSI 133 establishes organizational requirements for managing individuals’ consent for the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information throughout its lifecycle. Recognizing that consent preferences evolve over time, the standard promotes a user-centric approach that enables individuals to make informed choices, update their preferences, and withdraw consent while supporting transparency, accountability, interoperability, and responsible data governance.
The proposed standard is intended to be technology-neutral and applicable across all sectors, including public and private organizations, government entities, and not-for-profit organizations. It also addresses modern data practices involving artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies by emphasizing ongoing transparency, meaningful user choice, and adaptable consent management choices for the individual.
DGSI encourages organizations, privacy professionals, regulators, technology providers, researchers, and other interested parties to participate in the consultation and help shape this important national standard.
The draft standard is available for review via CAN/DGSI 133.
Comments submitted during the public review will be considered by the DGSI Technical Committee #9 on Privacy.
