Ottawa, ON — The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) has published the first revision to the First Edition of CAN/DGSI 100-7 Data governance – Part 7: Operating model for responsible data stewardship.
This revised National Standard of Canada supports organizations in operationalizing responsible data stewardship through governance practices that address leadership, legal compliance, accountability, management, data user requirements, and public and stakeholder engagement. The standard is intended to be used for conformity assessment.
The following main amendments have been made:
- Clarification in the definition of data institution to consider that at times it may be AI agents that are performing data steward activities.
- Additional clarity on the public disclosure requirement in 4.3.4 and the priority of handling sensitive or personal information.
- An additional reference was added for the First Nations Information Governance Centre regarding First Nations data sovereignty in Canada in clause 4.3.6.
CAN/DGSI 100-7:2023/Rev 1:2026 was prepared by the DGSI Technical Committee 1 (TC 1) on Data Governance.
