The Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) is initiating the periodic maintenance review of CAN/DGSI 105:2022 (R2024), Cybersecurity of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Devices to ensure its continued relevance in an evolving digital landscape.
As IIoT devices become more embedded in critical infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, and other industries, cybersecurity threats are rapidly increasing. Organizations must adopt robust security measures to protect data, networks, and operational processes from cyberattacks, unauthorized access, and supply chain vulnerabilities.
About CAN/DGSI 105
This National Standard of Canada specifies minimum cybersecurity controls for the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of IIoT devices, ensuring they meet security, safety, confidentiality, integrity, and availability requirements. It serves as a foundational framework for organizations planning to acquire or integrate IIoT devices into their operations.
Why This Review Matters
The review process, which begins one year from the date of publication, may result in a new edition, revision, reaffirmation, or withdrawal of the Standard. Given the rapid evolution of cybersecurity threats, DGSI is calling on industry professionals, government representatives, cybersecurity experts, and IIoT stakeholders to provide feedback and help shape the next iteration of this critical standard.
Key Aspects Under Review
- Access Control & Authentication – Strengthening identity verification for IIoT devices and networks.
- Secure Design & Lifecycle Management – Ensuring security from development through decommissioning.
- Threat Detection & Risk Mitigation – Defining best practices to prevent malware, ransomware, and cyber intrusions.
- Supply Chain Security – Establishing standards for vendors and manufacturers to mitigate risks in IIoT ecosystems.
- Zero Trust & Encryption – Implementing Zero Trust security models and encryption standards to enhance data protection.
How to Get Involved
DGSI invites all stakeholders to review the standard and submit feedback by June 18 2025. Your insights are vital in ensuring that IIoT security remains strong, adaptive, and effective.
