Shaping Canada’s National Approach to Digital Literacy

The Social Economy Through Social Inclusion (SETSI) in partnership with the Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI) and with support from the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) are pleased to announce the publication of a National Workshop Agreement to support Digital Literacy in Canada.

Digital literacy is a critical enabler of equitable participation in today’s digital world, yet efforts across public, private, and nonprofit sectors remain siloed. This initiative brought over 70 participants together to share their expertise and help shape a shared framework that supports a more inclusive and coordinated approach to digital literacy in Canada.

The Workshop Agreement:
• Defines a common vocabulary for digital literacy and related terms
• Provides practical guidance for implementing digital literacy initiatives in diverse settings
• Identifies cross sector best practices that can be adapted and scaled
• Proposes a shared set of indicators to track progress and impact

The publication of the Workshop Agreement reflects SETSI’s continued leadership in embedding justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access in Canada’s social economy and digital future, and DGSI’s commitment to building consensus-based standards that support a trusted and inclusive digital landscape.
